About Us – The Story Behind Barrier Island Builders
Barrier Island Builders owner, Stan Belvin’s roots trace back to Gloucester County, VA, where his family has lived for generations, dating back to the 1600s. The Outer Banks, NC, played a pivotal role in his upbringing, serving as the backdrop for countless family vacations. It was only natural that he and his siblings eventually made their way to Dare County to live and work full-time.
From an early age, Stan was fascinated by construction, inspired by his grandfather, who built their family home from the ground up—without the modern conveniences of plywood or nail guns. As a child, he spent hours rummaging through his grandfather’s tool shed, sparking a lifelong passion for building. By the time he was 12, he and his brothers had advanced from building forts in the woods to crafting skateboard ramps with borrowed power tools. Through it all, his father instilled in him a relentless work ethic—one that continues to drive him to this day.
Stan earned a B.S. in Economics from East Carolina University but quickly found his true calling in the construction industry. Nearly two decades later, he has built a career marked by hands-on experience and expertise in every facet of the building process. His projects span from Ocracoke to Carova, touching every coastal village in between. Over the years, he has refined his skills in construction quality control, process development, and relationship building—core principles that still guide his work today.
At Barrier Island Builders, the focus is on creating structures that are not just beautiful but also built to withstand the harsh coastal environment. Coastal construction presents unique challenges—from high winds and salt exposure to shifting sands and flood risks. Stan and his team specialize in resilient building techniques, ensuring that every home, deck, screened porch, and outdoor structure is designed for long-term durability. Impact-resistant materials, storm-rated engineering, and expert craftsmanship go into every project, giving homeowners peace of mind that their investment is built to last.
As the founder of The Rosewell Group and Barrier Island Builders, Stan is always looking ahead, committed to enhancing coastal living through expert construction practices. The name Rosewell carries deep personal meaning, originating from a cemetery in his hometown where many of his family members, mentors, and friends are laid to rest—a reminder of both his roots and his journey.
When he’s not managing projects, Stan is an avid skateboarder, surfer, and snowboarder. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Jacqui, and, despite his leadership role, still finds joy in putting on his tool belt and getting hands-on with the work he loves.
